Mennonite Disaster Service at LBE Camp

First Cabin Almost CompletedAfter so many years of praying for our own camp property, it’s encouraging to see the progress that has been happening so quickly over the last two months.

To prepare for the Mennonite Disaster Service’s arrival, many workers and volunteers joined the effort to install rebar, plumbing and to pour concrete for the foundations. Two foundations have been finished with another one being completed this week. We would like to thank the volunteers that came from Rosenort, MB and Fehrway Construction for all of their hard work on this project. We would also like to thank Falcon Concrete for giving us a discount on the concrete supplies!

With the foundations laid, the MDS team has begun framing the first two cabins. Under the oversight of Dave Wiebe, they have made great progress. Teams from Swiftcurrent, Saskatchewan and Wichita, Kansas are among the volunteers who have been out in the heat, swinging hammers and wielding saws. The two cabins are about half way done with a third one being started this week.

As construction continues, our overnight camps with the kids have begun. The boys are out at the camp property tenting in the woods this week. Twenty six boys left the city on Monday, excited for an outdoor adventure on their very own camp property! Activities will include lots of swimming in our lake, canoeing and kayaking on the river, Bible lessons and dramas, singing, cooking on the camp fire, day trips for hiking, and other fun activities. Please pray for great weather this week and for hearts to be drawn closer to God.

Along with the summer team, there have been a number of people who have been hard at work preparing the property for our overnight camps. We would like to thank Jack Penner, Josh Thiessen, Ian Hill, Preston Linklater, and David Thiessen for all of their work over the last few months and weeks.

We praise God for all of His provision. We have had many individuals involved so far, with more who have committed to help as the project progresses. There are ongoing costs to the continuing building at camp and also for the regular costs of running our year round ministry.
