2013 Banquet Update

BanquetI am pleased to write this banquet report to encourage and give you a great opportunity to be involved. Our theme is so close to our hearts as we want to see many young people complete their life in Christ. We guide children into Truth, and we guard their way as they realize their destiny in Jesus Christ.

The following is what we shared from our vision with the crowd of just over 500 people, many of whom were first time attendees.

Our ministry is based on relationships developed through weekly home visitations, weekly meetings with young people, seasonally specific ministry, and a year round meeting schedule. We expect to keep children from age 6 to adult as they grow up in Christ within LBE. Living Bible Explorers has three questions that we use as anchors that shape our work: 1) Will this draw them closer to Jesus? 2) Will this strengthen relationships between them and Christian leaders? and 3) Will this protect their physical and emotional well-being?

Living Bible Explorers has been growing ministry in three areas. First, we looked at the Teen Ministry and training that has increased through our Rooted meetings. Rooted is a small group discipleship program where the Bible is studied in depth and the teens are trained and equipped to serve in ministry. We have enjoyed seeing fruit that lasts in these teens’ lives. This is the fruit of service and devotion to the Lord. Our future plans include growing the job opportunities for LBE teens within the ministry.

Next we looked at the new North End ministry that began this year. We are partnering with Grace Point Church and use Norquay School in Point Douglas to meet with children each Saturday. This means we now rent three schools, and have three simultaneous children’s meetings each Saturday (and another place where our teens and Winnipeg youth groups help out). Our future goal is to see our Saturday meetings increase to where we will rent more schools in inner city neighbourhoods.

Finally we looked at our new camp property as we prepare to build cabins for this year of Bible Camp ministry. Before this year’s banquet, we had received $60,000 in giving toward the cabin construction. We are on the home stretch to see the total of $150,000 needed by June 30, 2013 with an additional $40,000 raised at the Banquet, bringing us to a new total of $100,000. As we develop the camp, we will use its rustic environment just as it is. We will build as God provides the funds and go forward by faith.

We continue to see great generosity from those who sponsored the 54 tables and from those who helped underwrite the cost of the event. We are so thankful for many donors who gave to the needs of the ministry. We are so pleased to report that the giving total for the Banquet Fundraiser is now almost $80,000 for a 25% increase over 2012.

A new video, produced by Mark Henkelman (Teen Program Coordinator) was shown at the banquet. This video went with our theme of Guiding and Guarding. It featured special interviews with volunteers who are doing just that with our young people. Footage of many children and teens enjoying their programs was encouraging to all. What is LBE actively doing to Guide and Guard young lives? We are teaching about God, helping each child to develop a relationship with God, bringing mentors into the lives of our youth, connecting our youth with the larger church body, training young people to serve and to lead, teaching the value of education and work, and also teaching and modeling marriage and family life.

You can still be a part of the banquet! If you missed the event and would like to make a banquet gift, we would be so grateful. Your gift is much needed, as we are about to spend significant funds on the camp construction. Please consider donating by cheque, giving online, or by calling the office with a credit card donation. We are encouraging donors to pray about their gifts and to ask God for the amount. If God is leading you to make a monthly commitment, this can be done by automatic bank withdrawal, or by credit card. Please call Donna at (204) 786-8667 to make either arrangement.

In closing, we want to thank all who made this event possible by their support through finances or volunteering and those who invited guests to attend their tables. Truly, Living Bible Explorers’ staff and leaders are so grateful and we know we couldn’t continue without you.

In Christ – George Hill
